Got comic books you want to sell? My name is Gabe from EZ Comic Buyer, and I buy comic books across all of Southern California — Golden Age, Silver Age, Bronze Age, Modern, graded slabs, raw books, single keys, and entire collections. Whether you’ve got a long box in the garage, a short box you inherited, or one valuable book you’ve been holding onto for years, I want to see it. Call me at (951) 515-9604 and I’ll come to you. If you want to know more about what your comics are worth before you sell, keep reading.

What Types of Comic Books We Buy

At EZ Comic Buyer, I don’t cherry-pick. I buy everything — key issues, full runs, mixed lots, and collections of any size. Here’s a breakdown by era so you know where your comics fall.

Golden Age Comics (1938–1956)

These are the oldest and often the most valuable comic books in existence. First appearances of Superman, Batman, Captain America, and Wonder Woman all fall in this era. Golden Age books are printed on soft, acidic paper that degrades over time, so condition varies widely. Even low-grade copies with detached covers, heavy creasing, and brittle pages can be worth serious money because of their scarcity. For example, there are books from this era with only 20 or 30 known copies in the entire world. If you have comics from the 1940s or early 1950s, call me immediately — these are exactly the books I want to see.

Silver Age Comics (1956–1970)

This is where Marvel Comics exploded onto the scene. Spider-Man, the Fantastic Four, X-Men, Iron Man, Thor, Hulk — all of them debuted during the Silver Age. DC was putting out classics too, with new versions of the Flash, Green Lantern, and the Justice League. Silver Age keys like Amazing Spider-Man #1 and Amazing Fantasy #15 are among the most sought-after comics on the planet.

However, Silver Age books also have unique grading challenges. Marvel chipping along the cover edges was common during this era’s printing process. Similarly, mis-wraps and spine stress marks are expected on books from the 1960s. These manufacturing quirks don’t destroy value the way people think — but understanding them matters when pricing a collection.

Bronze Age Comics (1970–1985)

The Bronze Age is where comics got darker and more mature. This era gave us the Punisher, Wolverine, the death of Gwen Stacy, and the rise of horror titles like Tomb of Dracula and Werewolf by Night. First appearances from this period — especially Incredible Hulk #181 (Wolverine) and Amazing Spider-Man #129 (Punisher) — are consistently strong sellers. Bronze Age collections often contain hidden gems that the average seller doesn’t realize they have.

Copper and Modern Age Comics (1985–Present)

Modern comics can absolutely have value — especially first appearances, variant covers, and low print run indie titles. Books like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #1, Spawn #1, The Walking Dead #1, and Batman Adventures #12 (first Harley Quinn) all command strong prices. In addition, CGC 9.8 copies of modern keys are highly collectible. I buy modern books in any condition, but high-grade copies are where the real money is in this era.

Every Format and Condition

Beyond era, I buy comics in every format. CGC and CBCS slabbed books, raw ungraded books, complete runs, partial runs, and bulk mixed lots. I also buy pre-code horror, war comics, romance comics, Western comics, and funny animal books. If it’s a comic book, I want to see it. Don’t assume your collection isn’t valuable because it’s not all superhero books — some of the most expensive comics ever sold are horror and crime titles from the early 1950s.

How Selling Your Comic Books to EZ Comic Buyer Works

The process is simple and I handle everything.

First, call me at (951) 515-9604 or fill out the form on our contact page. Tell me what you have — even if it’s just “a box of old comics” or “my dad’s collection from the ’60s.” You don’t need to know the issue numbers, the grades, or the values. That’s my job.

Next, I come to you — anywhere in Southern California. Your house, your office, your storage unit, wherever the comics are. I work around your schedule, including weekends.

Then I evaluate the collection in person. I go through the books, identify the keys and valuable issues, assess condition using real grading tools, and make you a fair cash offer based on current market data from sources like Heritage Auctions and GoCollect.

Finally, if you accept the offer, I pay you cash or check on the spot. Same day. No waiting for an auction to close, no shipping, no fees deducted from your payout.

Why Sell to a Local Buyer Instead of Selling Online

You have options when it comes to selling comics. Here’s why most sellers in Southern California end up calling me instead.

Selling on eBay

eBay charges seller fees, and you’re responsible for shipping a potentially valuable book to a stranger. Returns and disputes are common. If you’re selling a $10,000 comic, do you really want it bouncing around in a box on a FedEx truck? On top of that, listing, photographing, and managing auctions takes real time — especially if you have dozens or hundreds of books.

Consignment and Auction Houses

Consignment services take a percentage of the sale price, and the timeline can stretch into months. You ship your comics to them, wait for the auction cycle, and then wait for payment. For high-value individual books, consignment can make sense. But for most collections, the wait and the fees aren’t worth it — especially when you can get a fair cash offer the same day.

Local Comic Shops

Comic shops need to resell your books at a profit, so their offers reflect that margin. They’re also limited by what they can move in their store. A shop in a small town might not have buyers for a $5,000 Silver Age key, so they’ll lowball it or pass entirely. As a dedicated buyer, I’m purchasing for the collector market — not for shelf inventory — so my offers are based on actual market value.

Selling to EZ Comic Buyer

I come to you. I grade in person. Get your pay the same day. There’s no shipping risk, no seller fees, no waiting for auction results. You see exactly how I evaluate your books, I explain what I’m looking at and why, and you walk away with cash in hand. That’s the difference.

What Happens When I Evaluate Your Collection

When I show up to look at your comics, I’m not just flipping through them and guessing. I use the same grading criteria that professional grading companies use. Here’s what I look at on every book.

Cover presentation comes first — are the colors bright, does the cover have gloss, and how does it look at different angles? Some defects are invisible straight on but show up immediately when you tilt the book in the light. That’s why in-person evaluation matters so much.

Next, I check the spine for stress marks, color-breaking ticks, splits, and spine roll. Then I examine the staples — rust, alignment, and tears where the staple meets the paper. Rusted staples eventually cause brown migration stains that spread into the pages over time.

For page quality, I use an OWL card to measure how much the paper has darkened. Pages range from white to off-white to cream to brown, and this directly affects grade. I also check that the book is complete — no cut-out coupons, no missing pages, no interior damage.

On high-value keys, I use a black light to check for color touch-ups and restoration. A color touch-up will glow under black light in a dark room — the naked eye alone can’t always catch it. If there’s been restoration, that changes the book’s designation and its value significantly.

Inherited a Comic Book Collection?

This is one of the most common calls I get. Someone’s parent or grandparent passed away, and now there are boxes of comic books in the house that nobody knows what to do with. If that’s you, here’s what I’d tell you: don’t throw anything away, don’t let a junk hauler take them, and don’t try to sell them at a garage sale for a dollar each.

Even if the comics look old and beat up, they could be worth thousands. Golden Age and Silver Age books in rough condition still have real value because of their age and rarity. I’ve seen collections that the family thought were worthless turn out to contain books worth five figures.

You don’t need to sort them, grade them, or research them. Just call me. I’ll come to the house, go through everything, separate the valuable books from the common ones, and make you an offer on the spot. I’ll also give you honest guidance on anything I don’t buy — whether it’s worth selling somewhere else or if it’s truly common material. Learn more about us here.

Frequently Asked Questions About Selling Comic Books

What comic books do you buy?

Everything — Golden Age, Silver Age, Bronze Age, Modern, CGC/CBCS slabs, raw books, key issues, full runs, partial runs, bulk lots, and collections of any size. Superhero, horror, war, romance, Western, funny animal — if it’s a comic book, I want to see it.

Do I need to know what my comics are worth before calling?

Not at all. Most people who call me have no idea what they have, and that’s perfectly fine. Identifying and valuing comics is my job. Just tell me what you can — “a box of old comics,” “some Marvel books from the ’70s,” “my grandfather’s collection” — and I’ll take it from there.

How do you determine the value of my comics?

I evaluate each book’s condition in person using professional grading standards — cover presentation, spine condition, staple integrity, page quality, and any defects. My offers are based on current market data from auction results and sales platforms. I explain exactly what I’m seeing and why, so you understand how I arrived at the number.

Do you buy comics in poor condition?

Yes. Older comics hold value even in rough shape. A Golden Age or Silver Age key with a detached cover, heavy creasing, and brittle pages is still worth real money because of its age and rarity. Don’t assume your comics are worthless because they look beat up.

What if I only have a few comics, not a big collection?

That’s fine. I buy single books, small lots, and massive collections. Even one valuable key issue is worth a trip. Call me and describe what you have — I’ll let you know if it’s something I can work with.

How fast can I get paid?

Usually same day. Call me, I come to you — often within hours — evaluate the books, and pay cash or check on the spot if we agree on a price.

Where do you pick up comics?

Anywhere in Southern California — Orange County, Los Angeles County, Riverside County, San Bernardino County, San Diego County, and Ventura County. I come to your home, office, storage unit, or wherever the comics are located.

Should I get my comics graded by CGC before selling?

In most cases, no. Professional grading costs money, takes weeks, and involves shipping risk. I grade books myself using the same standards and tools. However, if your comics are already slabbed, I’ll factor the grade into my offer. For very high-value books, professional grading can increase the sale price — I can advise you on a case-by-case basis.
