Three different comics get called the first Captain Marvel, and the 1968 solo first issue is the cheapest of them. Two hundred and forty-one documented sales, a CGC 9.0 lane that has not left a narrow band in four years, and no cliff anywhere in the ladder.
A single CGC 9.8 of Green Lantern #59 sold for $30,000 in January 2025. The next grade down trades around $2,200. One sale is doing all the work at the top of this book, and the rest of the ladder is remarkably ordinary.
Most Bronze keys have one grade with money in it and a long flat tail. X-Men #101 does not. The first Phoenix pays real money at 9.4, at 9.0, and even raw, and the whole ladder has been moving up through 2026.
Gwen Stacy dies in Amazing Spider-Man #121 and the Green Goblin dies in #122, and the two issues are almost always found together. The market prices them separately, and at CGC 9.8 the difference between them has run to more than a thousand dollars.
A CGC 9.8 of X-Men #120 sold for $9,200 in June 2022. The same grade brought $2,285 this March. Almost nothing else in the Bronze Age fell that far, and the grades underneath it barely moved at all.
Days of Future Past opens here, under a cover that has been homaged so many times most people know it without having read the comic. That fame has not made the book expensive: a CGC 9.6 has been trading around three hundred dollars all year.
The first Jonah Hex has a hundred and forty-six documented sales, and very few of them are recent. That is unusual for a book this well known, and it changes how a seller should read every figure on this page.
Conan the Barbarian #1 has a public sale record running back to 2004, which almost nothing else from 1970 can say. It shows a CGC 9.8 at $14,400 in 2022 and about ten thousand now, and a middle of the ladder that barely noticed either number.
The first Black Cat exists in two versions that look identical from three feet away. At CGC 9.8 the newsstand copy has been bringing two to three thousand dollars this year and the direct copy has been bringing under twenty-three hundred, and the difference is a box in the corner.
Batman #227 is not a first appearance and contains no famous story. Its CGC 9.6 still went from $2,270 in 2013 to $8,540 in July 2026, because Neal Adams redrew the cover of Detective Comics #31 and collectors decided that was enough.
